Hey, my name is Jozef. I “do the IT” for living, for almost 22 years now. During these years, I’ve been a programmer, system administrator, system engineer, team lead, manager, top manager. Didn’t like it, started over as a Software Engineer.
I write Python, Go and TypeScript. Back then, I was a Django guy, spent years working with AWS, Azure, Terraform and Ansible.
Free-time activities
During my free time I built otvorenyparlament.info which I open sourced here. Translated to English, it means open parliament. The Slovak National Council website is at least 10 years old and ugly. I had different opinions how to present parliamentary data, so I decided to build a crawler, backend and I generate views and aggregations I consider important. For this journey, I chose PostgreSQL, Django, very flexible GraphQL API and Vue.js. Data is crawled with Scrapy and whole workflow is managed with Apache Airflow.

My most recent journeys
My journey in media field gave me an opportunity to jump into a declining market. Working as a Digital Media Director, I formed Digital Media Department and we were moving many different webs and platforms in-house, into single CMS. We also introduced first fully responsive news portal in our region, consisting of roughly 20 websites. And we introduced our paywall.
When I left, I felt like I want to feel the joy of building, which I missed so much. So started delivering Python and Django services. Been working with many different customers, spent enormous time with SearchStax. Here I build the Cloud Manager and Search Analytics. Actually, my longest journey so far.
But it was time to move on. And I now help building product which helps ophthalmologists diagnose faster and more accurately in Ikerian (formerly known as RetinAI).
